Living in Your Truth

Truth is THE pillar in the anatomy of a healthy identity. Feelings and coping skills that protect us from our pain are subjective in nature and are grounded in the lies of our pain. The truth of our identity is based in reality and is objective in nature. Because our loving heavenly Father knows the truth about who we are, we can trust Him with our pain and fears. He knows the worst about us but believes the best in us. This is true love and devotion.

Our feelings and coping mechanisms that were developed from early trauma can only be broken by the objective truth of God’s love for us. We must learn to TRUST GOD’S PERSPECTIVE OF WHO WE ARE. Healthy and right behavior is a result of truth thinking and faith in God’s view of self.

If you abide in My word [hold fast to My teachings and live in accordance with them], you are truly My disciples. And you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free. John 8:31b – 32

#1 Truth Intervention

We know that our reactivity to painful relational encounters is empowered by deep emotions that are hard-wired within our brain. These deeply imbedded impulses can only be circumvented through objective truth messages delivered from our inner (true) self, passed on through a renewed mind. This transference overrides our feelings with cognitive and internal truth about our new identity.

#2 Truth Repeated

These new truths messages… “I am valuable, I am chosen and I am secure” need to be repeated over and over again in order to rewire the brain. In a sense, we need to re-parent ourselves through God’s word, healthy relationships and mentors who can keep us in our renewed mind (cognitive brain). Truth is to be received, believed and repeated.

We love because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19.

#3 Truth Experienced

Don’t give up! It will take at least 90 repetitions of truth spoken and claimed before we will have a new experience of peace. It is important to note that current relational pain may be the reality of right script but wrong person. The reliving old feelings and patterns needs to be discovered and separated from the current situation. Over time, little by little, the nourishing love of Christ will bring about a healthy transformation in our emotional response and break old coping mechanisms.

And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh. Romans 13:11-14
